Some new USB printers may
accept data received only from the original printer driver. These
printers will not print anything when they receive incorrect data,
unlike older generation printers which will begin printing. garbled
data.
Please make sure you send the correct data to the printer or that
you purchase a printer which will accept the data you are about to
send it.
From DOS and legacy applications, we may receive ASCII data.
New HP printers that support this type of data should work with HP
PCL, and not only with raster support.
Epson printers should be able to work with ESC/P or ESC/P2 and not
only with raster.
This information is given at the printer manufacture’s website, in
the specifications of the printer you are using or would like to
buy.In most websites it is under “language support”.
So before buying a printer that you plan to use with DOS or Windows
Character application, ask for printers that support ASCII data.
So how do you test if your printer works with DOS or Legacy
character applications?
By sending ASCII data to your printer, such as the attached
SpoolFile application. This application enables you to send an ASCII
test page to the USB Printer. You may also send your specific PRN
file using the SpoolFile application to spool the PRN file to your
USB printer.
If the test page or your spool file were printed OK, your DOS or
Legacy application should work on your USB printer, and you can use
our LPT2USB device.
In order to make sure that there is no problem with our device,
follow the below procedure.
1) On the original USB printer driver, print a test page to a file.
To do this open a any windows application, Notepad for example,
create a test page, and then select printer, in the print dialog
select print to file and create a "c:\test.prn".
2) Restart the system and ensure that there are no printouts at the
spool file, and the printer with the LPT port is ready to be used
(not paused or offline).
3) a. Turn the LPT2USB device off.
b. Connect the LPT cable and the USB cable.
c. Turn power on.
4) Issue the following command at the DOS box:
C:\>COPY C:\TEST.PRN LPT1:
You can also use the SpoolFile application, and send the PRN file to
the Appropriate windows printer that is connected to the LPT1: port.
This should print the test page.
If the above did not print a test page, or an error was received
from the windows printers, open the Printer which is connected to
the LPT1: from Control Panel Printers, at the Printer Properties, at
the Port tab, uncheck the bi-directional support, then restart the
system and repeat the above steps.

If a problem still exists, make sure that the printer driver is
using the WinPrint print processor. In order to check this, go to
the Windows Printer Properties|Advanced tab|Print Processor.
